Veterans Speakers Project

We at the Veterans Speakers Project, are entering our 12th year speaking in schools in the Los Angeles area. We are all veterans of various wars who have had a variety of experiences. Our purpose is to educate young people about the realities of war and offer a perspective that is exclusively personal, a perspective not often heard by students. We have spoken in hundreds of classrooms in over 50 middle schools, high schools and Universities. We are called back year after year to schools such as Garfield HS, Grant HS, Huntington Park HS, Lincoln HS, Cal State Northridge, Marshall HS, Venice HS, Palisades HS, and many others, including magnet schools.

Our goal is to share our personal experiences of war, and encourage young people to become more knowledgeable of the real costs of war. We want young people to become informed citizens and voters, who value all human life, and who’ll hopefully resolve conflicts peacefully in their lives, their community, and the world. Our organization, the Veterans Speakers Project, provides two veterans to speak for about 20 minutes each period, allowing time for a question and answer session.

Arlington West Film Project

When Veterans For Peace began installing and maintaining the Arlington West Memorial on the beaches of California, the impact was immediately obvious. Those who witnessed the memorial and those of us who have been actively involved in the memorial since its inception, have recognized that the power and message of the memorial would need to reach beyond the shores, deep into churches, schools, and other public assemblies.

Two local artisans, Peter Marr and Sally Dudar, immediately put down the tools of their trade, picked up a video camera, and began documenting the experience of the memorial. Arlington West Film and Speakers Project was the result of their devotion to creating a film that captured candid interviews with individuals from a broad range of perspectives on war and peace. If you'd like to schedule a speaker for your school or event, please contact us at 323-650-8166 or fax a request to 323.931.1896.
