VETERANS FOR PEACE, LOS ANGELES CHAPTER
ARLINGTON WEST MEMORIAL SANTA MONICA EVENTS:
July 4th, 5th, 6th 2008
Arlingon West Santa Monica will be set up beginning at 7am on Friday, July 4th, and will remain until 4pm on Sunday, July 6th.
The setting up and taking down of the memorial is a monumental task! Volunteers are welcome to come and participate in this endeavor. To volunteer, simply come and introduce yourself. We'll be located on the north side of the pier at Santa Monica. Public parking on the pier or in the main lot at beach level generally costs $6-$8 per day. There is a 2-hour parking lot available nearby for $1 per hour. The 2-hour limit is strictly enforced by parking enforcement officials.
As always, the Los Angeles Chapter of Veterans For Peace strives to maintain the memorial in all manners respectful of those we've lost and the loved ones they leave behind. The Arlington West Mission Statement and the Veterans For Peace Statement of Purpose posted below will give you a better understanding about the principles we hold.
Arlington West Memorial is non-partisan and non-sectarian
The Arlington West Mission Statement
To honor the fallen and wounded; To acknowledge the human cost of war; To provide a place to grieve; To encourage dialogue among people with varied points of view; And to educate the public about the needs of those returning from war.
Veterans For Peace Statement of Purpose:
Veterans for Peace, Inc. (VFP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational and humanitarian organization dedicated to the abolishment of war.
We, having dutifully served our nation, do hereby affirm our greater responsibility to serve the cause of world peace. To this end we will work, with others:
- Toward increasing public awareness of the costs of war.
- To restrain our government from intervening, overtly and covertly, in the internal affairs
of other nations - To end the arms race and to reduce and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons
- To seek justice for veterans and victims of war
- To abolish war as an instrument of national policy.
To achieve these goals, members of Veterans For Peace pledge to use non-violent means and to maintain an organization that is both democratic and open with the understanding that all members are trusted to act in the best interests of the group for the larger purpose of world peace.
